The volleyball touches an object outside the court, the ceiling or person that is "out of play". The volleyball touches the ropes, antennae, posts, or net itself that is outside the antennae. The volleyball crosses the vertical plane of the net either partially or totally outside the crossing space (above or completely outside the antennae).
Three Touches: In both beach volleyball and indoor volleyball, the team touches the ball up to three times before it must be on the other side of the volleyball net. IMPORTANT: In beach volleyball, if the ball touches the blocker (more to come on who this is later), this counts as one of your three touches.
SETTER: The person who has the crucial second touch of the ball. The third touch will be by a spiker, and the setter must set up the ball in a nice way for the spiker. He is one of the most important offensive players in a volleyball team. SIDE OUT: A situation where the receiving team wins the right to serve. This occurs either because they have won a point, or because the serving team committed an error.

Volleyball, game played by two teams, usually of six players on a side, in which the players use their hands to bat a ball back and forth over a high net, trying to make the ball touch the court within the opponents’ playing area before it can be returned. To prevent this a player on the opposing team bats the ball up and toward a teammate before it touches the court surface—that teammate may then volley it back across the net or bat it to a third teammate who volleys it across the net.
When a ball is hit by the attacking side it is quite common for the blockers or defenders to get a touch on the ball. It is important for officials to notice this, as if the ball was to land out after a touch from the blockers or defenders, the attacking team would be awarded the point. This is known as touch out or ball touched.
